You will pay a little bit more for this netbook than for some others, but unless you only do email, you also can’t usually replace your laptop with a netbook.  Many users say that’s exactly what they are doing with the Toshiba NB305-N600.

Upgrading the RAM from 1GB to 2 GB is easy. Using a Phillips screwdriver, take the screws from the RAM cover, pop out the 1 GB RAM and slide in the 2 GB, replace the screws, and that’s it. Unless you are using some heavy duty programs it’s unlikely you will need to upgrade the RAM, but rest assured it’s very doable and only takes a few minutes.

When I compare the features on the laptop I am replacing to what I can get in a netbook, not only is this netbook less than a quarter of what I paid for my laptop 3 years ago, it has far more capacity than my laptop, including a 250GB hard drive to the 100GB on my laptop.  Since I don’t have problems watching videos on my laptop I doubt that I will have any problems watching them on the Toshiba, and certainly users don’t report any problems.

With the full size keyboard and multi-function touchpad all I am going to do is get myself a set of external speakers to add to the netbook and I will be outdoing what I have now. For a third of the price I am going to get something that is much more productive and feature loaded.  What more could I ask?  The Toshiba 10.1-Inch NB305-N600 Netbook is excellent value for money as it is, when I know it’s going to save me from getting another laptop I can’t even begin to calculate its value.  Just being able to carry it around with ease is a major plus.

The Toshiba NB505-N508 10.1 Inch Netbook comes in five colors; Blue, Brown, Orange, Green and Turquoise. Toshiba NB505-N508BN is the Brown version of this model. I will get straight to the number one selling point for me and tell you that the battery life lasts up to eight hours under normal conditions. When that is at least double what you can get from most netbooks, and significantly more than the laptop need to replace, it’s enough to place this netbook at the top of my list. It’s phenomenal and, as you will remember from my overview, having a long better life means that the NB505-N508BN has a six cell battery- and that’s a very good thing. .

What Toshiba has been able to do is put in a six cell battery but still keep the weight down. If you are using your netbook while you are in bed, or watching the TV, the weight probably isn’t important to you. However, once you start trying to pack up ad go, extra weight is just a hindrance. The Toshiba packs a punch yet is also still what would be called a very light netbook. Another thing in its favor!

The Intel Core Processor works just fine, and having the extra batter life is certainly makes a difference. However, with RAM being so affordable, I would upgrade to 2GB of RAM rather than stay with the installed 1GB. And if you don’t want to change out the RAM, you don’t need to. If you find that accessing programs, and, boot up time is too slow for you (and I am not saying it is slow but some people would find a Lear jet too slow for their needs), throw in another GB.

The Toshiba NB505-N508BN has a 10.1inch screen. It has great resolution and also comes with LED backlight. This makes everything much more crisps and clear. It would be remiss of me not to mention the full sized keyboard and the nifty touch pad. I like the small netbooks but I also like a full sized keyboard. This little baby give me exactly what I am looking for. The 21^st Century touch pad is an added bonus. If you have ever marveled at the TV and movie technology that shows the lead actors pinching and expanding their fingers on a touch bad to zoom in and out on images displayed on a white board, have a go doing the same thing on your Toshiba netbook! I don’t know who comes up with these ideas but I am glad that they do.

The NB505-N508BN works great for watching videos and surfing, though lots of users also remark that they use it for heavy duty work and it performs perfectly. This netbook will not replace your desktop or laptop functionality – it isn’t meant to. This netbook is made for the traveler, the person on the go, the student, someone who doesn’t need the bells and whistles of a desktop or laptop, but still wants to get the job done.

As with many netbooks, the NB505-N508BN comes loaded with software that most users don’t need: Microsoft Office Starter 2010; Microsoft Silverlight; Microsoft Live Essentials; Norton Internet Security 2011 (30-day trial); Google Toolbar and Google Chrome; Microsoft Windows Media Player 12; Toshiba Online Backup (30-day trial). If you don’t want it, simply uninstall it and free up the disk space. It’s easy, go into your uninstall program and click the programs you don’t want. You can also uninstall the Windows 7 starter edition if you wish. Load up Ubuntu, or any other operating system that better suits you. The Windows 7 starter kit does not have full functionality, but, you can go online and download the missing links. If it serves your needs as it is though, why bother?

My extensive search of buyer reviews didn’t give me any cause for concern.
