One of these features is the web based 750 GB storage. While the Netbook comes with the standard 250 GB hard drive, you also get access to ASUS’s Webstorage – free, for one year. This gives you a whole year to decide if online storage is for you. (Don’t worry about what to do with your files if you choose not to continue with Webstorage. External hard drives are very affordable and you can easily transfer your data to one of the many products available.)

Another feature is the amazingly fast transfers:480 megabits (60 Megabytes) per second in close proximity, and 100 megabits (12.5 Megabytes) per second at 10 meters. That is FAST! If you are doing lots of downloads, this feature alone will save you lots of time, and, makes this a ‘buy’ product for me.

And if the 13 hour battery life doesn’t make you realize this is an extra special little netbook, let me tell you that the laptop that is being used to type this review only has a one hour battery life. The Eee PC 1015PEM-PU17-BK Netbook battery is made for travelers and people on the go. Don’t be stuck looking for a power point again.

One of the common features on this netbook is the keyboard. It is practically full size at 92%, but, then the specialness creeps in; it has a multifunctional touch pad that lets you actually zoom in and out. How sweet is that?

Perhaps the only disappointment for me, is that this top-end unit still comes loaded with Windows 7 Starter pack and a bundle of trial software. Most buyers seem to have no problem using the starter edition for everything they need to do, I just think it would have been a nice addition to get the full Windows 7 package. As for the trial software, if you don’t want it, delete it and free up the disc space. Also, the 0.3 meg webcamera still remains, but while it seems subpar for a unit that is so loaded, it also seems to be more than adequate for travelers who stay in touch with Skype.

This is a really awesome, lightweight, netbook that is excellent value for the money. There are so many more special features on the Eee PC 1015PEM-PU17-BK Netbook that you’d be hard pressed not to snap it right up. And that is my recommendation.

Although there is a new model for this netbook, a thorough search revealed no reviews and I couldn’t find a unit to test in an electronics store, so, I had to resort to tech pages to understand what the differences are. I will point them out as I go along.

The ASUS Eee PC 1001PX-EU27-WT netbook is the white version of the Eee PC 1001PX-EU27. It is also available in black color and is called ASUS Eee PC 1001PX-EU27-BK. The new model ASUS Eee PC 1001PXD-EU17-WT includes beside white and black colors, blue too. Both models come equipped with all the standard features, including: 250 GB hard drive, 0.3 meg web camera, 10.1 inch screen, and, about 4 hours battery life.

There are three things that set the 1001PXD apart from the 1001PX. The additional color choice I have mentioned and, the other two differences are the jump from the Atom N450 processor to the Atom N455, coupled with the jump from the DDR2 RAM to the DDR3 RAM. And this is where it gets interesting.

Although, as I mentioned, I was unable to find the new netbook to test, and, I also couldn’t find any online reviews, I did find lots of discussion about the processor and DDR in the tech news. And, while the DDR3 performs reading/writing twice as fast and needs the support of the N455 in order to do so, most of the tech news seems to recommend that you buy what you can afford. While having a fast speed is obviously nice, it certainly isn’t hitting the mainline news on the tech pages as a must have with this netbook.

The Eee PC 1001PX-EU27-WT comes loaded with the starter edition of Windows 7, and Skype. When all you need is something to write your term papers on, and, check your email, this is the perfect netbook for the job. For the person on the go, especially when that involves long haul traveling, the light weight, good sized screen and almost full size keyboard will let you get your work done and stay in touch with ease. Try as I might I couldn’t find any info about whether Skype comes pre-installed on the 1001PXD.

Overall, the ASUS 1001PX netbook does a fantastic job and is a great deal. For the price, it fits the budget of students, seniors, and those just wanting something light for traveling. One of the downsides is that there are only 2 USB ports so you will probably want to pick up a USB hub. I use an external hard drive for my backups and also a wireless mouse. I need a USB port for each. If I want to use my headphones – which also need a USB, then I would have to get a hub. (That’s just another name for an extension cord for USB sockets)

Something that I haven’t mentioned anywhere is that the Windows 7 starter pack is limited in what it allows you to do. As an example, you cannot change the background image. If you know this will bug you, either download a free word processing package, upgrade to the full Windows 7 version, or, use a program you already have.

I do have to say that buyers really speak highly of the value for money they get with the ASUS Eee PC 1001PX-EU27-WT and you can find lots of rave reviews if you want to read further.
